Rural India shoulders 63% total debt burden

Rural India appears to be reeling under a debt burden with the latest study by the National Sample Survey organisation pointing out that rural households accounted for 63% of the country’s overall aggregate outstanding debt of Rs 1,77,000 crore till June 2002. here.

China's legislature abolishes 2,600-year-old agricultural tax

China's 2,600-year-old agricultural tax will no longer exist as of Jan. 1, 2006, according to a decision of the national legislature which approved a motion on abolishing the regulations on the tax Thursday. available here

Debt everywhere:Icelanders set all time record in household overdrafts

At the end of October households in Iceland owed ISK 75 billion in overdrafts, reports Morgunbladid. The Analyst Department at Íslandsbanki said that this was a historical record and on average each Icelander owned ISK 250,000 in overdrafts. full story available here.

World population hits 6.5 billion

The French National Institute of Demographic Research published its statistics showing that the world population reached 6.5 billion on Dec.19, 2005 and would likely come to 7 billion between 2012 to 2013. available here.

China remains a developing country despite GDP increase

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said Tuesday in Beijing that China remains a developing country although the official size of economy has risen after taking into account emerging service industries. available here.
